BEST COFFEE SHOPS IN MINNEAPOLIS
When I think about different ways I’d market the Twin Cities - coffee is a big one. I drink beans from all over the country (I use Trade Coffee as a curator and get cool roasters sent to me every month - you can sign up here).
I do think Minneapolis has one of the best coffee scenes in the country. To me, there’s a special joy in going to a great coffee shop from a team that also roasts their coffee. You can have cool coffee shops that aren’t roasters, too. I’ll list them separately.

SPYHOUSE COFFEE ROASTERS: National-caliber roasters, Spyhouse has very well-trained staff and the company creates delicate, beautiful roasts.
BACKSTORY COFFEE ROASTERS: Backstory is the most beautiful coffee shop in the North Loop. Flora and greenery abound, luxe finishes, soaring ceilings. AND they’re really good roasters - they’ve been doing it in St. Paul since 2012.
UP COFFEE: Zero vibes, great people, connected to the roastery, some of my absolute favorite coffee roasts in the state.
S.K. COFFEE: Unique, exceptional roasts. S.K. is special. They’re now in the skyway in downtown Minneapolis, they roast right on the border of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
FRGMNT COFFEE: I mean can I buy a vowel, FRGMNT? Vibes a plenty here but FRGMNT (say fragment) is serious about roasting. They source some of the best beans from around the world and have great staff serving it up. A great experience.
FIVE WATT COFFEE: Excellent roaster, but Five Watt Coffee really excels at specialty coffee drinks with the precision and creativity of your favorite bartender.
DOGWOOD COFFEE: One of the oldest third wave coffee roasters, Dogwood just gets it. High quality, great sourcing, I particularly love their espresso beans. Great shops all over Minneapolis, too.
THE GET DOWN COFFEE COMPANY: I love what Houston White is doing for community and this black-owned coffee shop feels good and tastes great too. I had a single-origin pourover last time I was in that was executed perfectly.
