Certainly you have at least one friend who is passionate about their SodaStream? Or you’ve seen it on their countertop?
SodaStream is the device that lets you carbonate your own water, soda, lemonade at home. The complaint about the original model was that it’s ugly. So the company hired a designer, Yves Behar, to upgrade the machine to the new Source. It’s an easier user interface, there are bright colors available, and so SodaStream sent me a SodaStream Source to test out.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how much I would use it. I am a soda drinker, mostly drinking Diet Cola drinks. But I also really like fizzy water.
After a month: I use the SodaStream every day. Sometimes multiple times a day. It’s super-easy: the device sits on the counter top, and there’s a small CO2 tank inserted in the back. To carbonate lightly, you push down once until 1 LED light lights up. Medium: go for 2 LEDs. Full-fizz: 3 pumps, 3 LEDs.
The full sugar sodas are actually lower calorie than the stuff you buy at the stores, around 50 calories for 8 ounces, as opposed to closer to 70. I liked the Diet Pink Grapefruit (no artificial flavors, Splenda is the sweetener). But mostly I use it to carbonate water, and I’m drinking a ton more water than I used to.
I really enjoy my SodaStream. The Source costs $100 at Target, The flavors are about $5 and they make about 12 liters (33 cans) of soda. SodaStream claims to be cheaper than buying soda, although if you’re like me and you buy it on sale (I wait for 4 12 packs/$10 deals) – I’d argue it’s almost identical in cost.
But it’s so easy to use! Have you used SodaStream? What do you think? Let me know in the comments!
