Is this the best, cheap Mexican food in Minneapolis? It might be. Maya Cuisine has a really kind staff, a truly authentic flavor, and incredibly reasonable prices.
We brought our two sons for a Saturday lunch, and they loved it!
The tortillas are all made in house, you’ll see someone in the front just working on tortillas. They’re perfect: substantial enough to hold the toppings of the taco, but not so substantial that it tastes like you’re eating an arepa.
What do you want in your taco? I highly recommend the al pastor, the lengua (tongue), barbacoa, cochinito pibil (pork), and papas con chorizo, but every meat we tried was quite good. The potatoes and chorizo was nice and spicy, the cochinito pibil had a smoky Serrano pepper taste to it..
The Combo Maya Plate is $7.25, comes with rice, beans, plus any three single items. So two tacos and one tostada, two tamales and one taco.
And do get the tamales: they had a very unique masa: it was almost white in color. Fluffy and airy and delicious. Really wonderful.
A la carte a taco or tamale is just $2!
The quesadilla was also perfect: a 12″ toasted flour tortilla, again filled with whatever you want inside, with rice and beans for $7.25. This is a meal for two.
The people are nice, the food is great, I highly recommend a visit to Maya Cuisine!

The homemade tortillas sold me. I’m there.
